ALEX Dowsett couldn’t make an impact in the Road Race World Championships individual time trial.

Competing in Ponferrada, Spain, for Great Britain in the men’s elite 47.1km event, Dowsett finished in 20th place.

Dowsett came into the competition on the back of a gruelling ride in the Tour of Britain, where he wore the Yellow Jersey for a day.

The 25-year-old, from Cock Clarks, crossed the line two minutes 35.09 seconds down on new world champion Sir Bradley Wiggins, who posted 56m 25.52s.

Wiggins put an end to Germany’s Tony Martin’s reign as champion for his first world title in the event.

Martin finished 26.23s down on Wiggins in second place.

The Netherlands’ Tom Dumoulin took the bronze medal, 40 seconds slower than Wiggins.
