ALEX Dowset has signed a new three-year deal to keep him at Spanish team Movistar.

The 25-year-old, from Cock Clarks, who has secured Commonwealth Games time trial gold and wore the yellow Jersey in the Tour of Britain this year, will stay with Eusebio Unzué's squad until 2017.

Dowsett was part of the Movistar team that secured sixth place at the Team Time Trial in the Road World Championships, held over 57 kilometres of rolling roads in the Bierzo, Ponferrada, Spain, at the weekend.

The BMC Racing Team claimed the title, with Belgian team OPQS second and Australian outfit Orica-GreenEdge third.

Dowsett races for Great Britain in the individual time trial on Wednesday.
