BERTIE Brayley’s Burnham Ramblers bounced back to secure a point after being handed a footballing lesson at the weekend.

Ramblers went down to a Ryman League division one north 7-0 loss at Dereham Town on Saturday but held Cheshunt to a 0-0 away draw on Tuesday night for a much-needed point.

Ramblers manager Brayley, speaking about the Dereham match, said: “It was as stark as the scoreline suggests.

“We looked comfortable for about the first five to ten minutes and then Dereham gave us a footballing lesson.

“There first three of four goals were stunners and just sailed in.

“To be fair we looked a couple of yards behind them in our fitness and that is something we are going to have to work on.”

Goals from Aaron Kay, Scott Roberts, Michael Clunan and Samuel Borrer saw the home side 4-0 up at half-time.

The rout was completed in the second half by a double strike from Toby Hilliard and a goal by Luke Bailey.

Brayley added: “We lost L’Heureux Menga through suspension.

“It made us very weak up top and he is invaluable to us.

“I also had to draft in three 17 year-olds from the Under-21 side and they all made it on to the pitch.

“We then had another sending off in the game when Kye Jude was red carded. The result was down to a lacklustre performance.

“We had players missing and I had to play people out of position.”
