BERTIE Brayley’s Burnham Ramblers secured derby bragging rights.

The Leslie Field side secured a 2-1 Ryman League division one north victory against visiting Maldon and Tiptree on Bank Holiday Monday.

Ramblers’ Liam Burgess scored on 34 minutes and L’Heureux Menga added a second on 88 minutes.

Maldon pulled a goal back through Ben Sartain on 90 minutes but it wasn’t enough.

Ramblers manager Brayley said: “To be fair we took the lead deservedly.

“They came out fast but after that we contained them.

“I think we had the most of the game and could have been three-up by half-time.

“I think being only 1-0 down at the break flattered them.

“They got their goal late on and I don’t think the game was as tight as the scoreline suggested.”

Next up for Burnham is the preliminary round of the FA Cup.

They entertain Hadleigh United and will be looking to progress in the competition following their derby success against the Jammers.

Brayley said: “We go into every game thinking it is going to be a hard game.

“But you can make it easy with hard work.

“If the players give me 150 per cent on the pitch then there is no reason why we can’t come out with the result.

“Hadleigh are no pushover and the FA Cup is a special day.”
