Lee looks on bright side after defeat

BURNHAM Ramblers boss Lee Elliston concentrated on the positives after watching his side slip to a 5-4 defeat at home to FC Clacton on Tuesday.

Ramblers’ pre-season continued with a breathless encounter at Leslie Field, with the Seasiders’ last two goals coming as late as the 87th and 89th minutes.

Nevertheless, Elliston was satisfied with many aspects of his side’s play and believes they are heading in the right direction, as they continue their preparations for the new Ryman League season.

“Obviously it would have been nice to win,” said the new Burnham boss, who took over last week and replaced the Heybridge Swifts-bound Keith Wilson.

“Any win, even in a pre-season friendly, helps breed confidence and momentum.

“But results don’t matter too much and you get some strange ones at this time of year.

“Both sides made lots of substitutions and you lose a bit of shape and organisation when that happens.

“We got a little bit sloppy and that probably accounts for the fact we lost.

“But there were lots of positives, especially in terms of our attacking play.

“That was our main focus of the night and in that respect it worked well.”
