BARRY Lakin has vowed to keep an open mind regarding his next move in non-league.

The former Stanway Rovers manager has just parted company with Maldon & Tiptree, having been assistant boss to Terry Spillane.

It proved a relatively short-term role for the ex-Leyton Orient professional, having only joined last October.

And with the need for “longevity” being a key factor in terms of his next position, he wants to make sure he makes the right decision.

“I’m going to chill out, enjoy watching some football and make sure my next club is somewhere I can be for a long time,” said Lakin.

“It feels a bit like I’ve gone from club to club recently and I’ve been with five different ones in two and a half years.

“I’ve become a bit of a nomad, but that’s not what I want.

“Longevity is key to me now and I haven’t had it at my previous few clubs.

“Leaving Maldon was very disappointing and has taken the wind out of my sails a bit.

“I really enjoyed it there and put a lot of time and effort in.

“Terry had decisions to make and I always respected them.

“I like him very much as a person and a manager and feel disappointed it didn’t work out.”

Lakin said his exit was both amicable and mutual.
