It was heartbreak for Witham Town as they failed to claim the Ryman League division one north title.

They were held to a 1-1 draw at Cheshunt and VCD Athletic leapfrogged them to take the top spot with a 6-0 win against Romford.

Witham made the best possible start when Tom Wraight put the visitors 1-0 up on 14 minutes.

However, Allen Bossman equalised for Cheshunt against the run of play on 34 minutes.

Witham battled to regain their lead but couldn’t find the vital goal.

They will now go into the play-offs to try and seal promotion.

Heybridge Swifts secured third place home advantage in the play-offs with a 6-1 win against visiting Redbridge.

Swifts made their intentions clear early on when Chris Bryan’s delicate chip from 18 yards cleared the visiting keeper and went into the back of the net on seven minutes.

But that lead didn’t last long as Redbridge equalised four minutes later through Daniel Fracis.

However, Swifts were back in front on 15 minutes when Jamie Guy headed home Bryan’s cross.

After the break, Heybridge went on to the attack straight away and Bryan shot wide from 20 yards.

Ben Newson was on target to increase Swifts lead on 67 minutes.

And Newson was on target again when he lifted the ball over the keeper and into the net on 78 minutes.

Danny Barber made it 5-1 with a free-kick that went in off the post on 90 minutes.

Newson then made it 6-1 to wrap up an emphatic victory.

Maldon and Tiptree ended their campaign on a high note with a 2-1 win against visiting Ware.

The Jammers fell behind to an early goal from Deniz Mehmet on six minutes.

However, the home side equalised through Ryan Wade on 37 minutes.

Lewis Dark then put the Jammers in front on 77 minutes.

Burnham Ramblers ended their season with a 0-0 draw at Dereham Town.
