BURNHAM Ramblers’ match at Cheshunt was blown away.
Ramblers were trailing 3-2 in the second-half when the referee called a halt to their Ryman League division one north encounter on Saturday.
Hail, rain, thunder and lightning followed by strong winds saw a section of the clubhouse roof ripped off and the collapse of part of the roof of the main stand.
Ramblers manager Keith Wilson said: “I said to the Cheshunt assistant manager afterwards that had we been winning at the time it was abandoned, it would have still been the right decision.
“It might have been OK for the players, but for the spectators and the linesman, who had his back towards the stand which had the roof collapse, it was very dangerous.”
And Burnham suffered again from the weather when their local derby at Leslie Field against Maldon and Tiptree had to be postponed following a waterlogged pitch.
Wilson said: “The groundstaff had been working for hours to try and get the game on and then it rained again.
“It’s just unfortunate, one of those things."
