MALDON and Tiptree boss Terry Spillane has bolstered his squad with two new signings – including Stanway Rovers man Michael Fitzgibbon.

The long-serving defender is stepping up to the Ryman League, where he will be reunited with former Rovers boss and current Maldon number two Barry Lakin.

Spillane has also signed Dylan Skinner from Essex Olympian League side Rochford Town.

And the young goalkeeper could find himself plunged straight into action after it was confirmed that shot-stopper Tom Warren broke his ankle in training on Thursday night.

“I’m delighted to have signed these lads,” said Spillane.

“Michael had become a top target and, after several years at Stanway, he feels ready to step up to the Ryman League.

“He’s a tough, all-action player and, as well as being able to play across the back line, he can also operate as a holding midfielder, so he’s got different strings to his bow.

“He’ll have to fight for his place and he’s willing to do that, so he’s got all the right characteristics.”

Maldon had been due to entertain Cheshunt last Saturday, but the match was postponed due to the waterlogged state of the Park Drive pitch.

Their next two Ryman One North matches are both away – at Ware on Saturday and then Brentwood next Tuesday.

Maldon’s postponed game against Cheshunt will now take place on Tuesday, February 18.
