JODY Brown secured his first victory as Heybridge Swifts manager.

Swifts took a 3-1 win against bottom-of-the-table Ware in their Ryman League division one north encounter at Scraley Road.

This was Brown’s second match in charge at Swifts, following the 2-1 deby defeat to Maldon and Tiptree on Boxing Day.

However, it was the visitors who were making the early chances and Kieran Bishop pulled a great one-handed save from Danny Sambridge.

And it was Ware who took the lead in the 11th minute when Anton Costaas beat defender Robbie King in the box and fired past Sambridge.

Ware went close again soon after and were indebted to Sambridge to keep them only one goal down when he turned a Bishop effort around the post.

Costaas again went close for the visitors and it was Sambridge that came to the rescue once more with another good one-handed save.

Michael Cheek then closed in on goal for the hosts but was denied by the visiting keeper’s legs.

But on the stroke of half-time Swifts equalised when Ben Newson’s shot deflected off a defender and into the back of the net with the keeper stranded.

After the break the home side stepped up the pace and it wasn’t long before they took the lead when one minute after the restart Cheek made it 2-1.

Swifts then wrapped up the match and three points when Michael Toner powered home on 59 minutes.
