Wilson disappointed by FA Cup first-half display

BURNHAM Ramblers boss Keith Wilson is urging his players to be consistent for 90 minutes.
The Leslie Field boss was less than impressed by the way his side started Saturday’s 2-1 FA Cup defeat against AFC Sudbury.
He described their first-half performance as “embarrassing” and the worst since he became manager.
Ramblers improved after the break but Wilson said his players need to be on their game for 90 minutes, rather than 45.
“We’ve been consistent throughout in the three games we’ve won,” said Wilson, whose side secured a 2-1 victory at home to Ware in Ryman League division one north last Tuesday.
“But on two or three other occasions, we’ve had to have the same chat about being switched on for 90 minutes, rather than 45.
“Saturday’s cup game was a classic example because the first half was the worst we’ve played since I became manager.
“It was embarrassing and Sudbury must have had at least 80 per cent of the possession, despite only leading 1-0.
“It was so annoying and for whatever reason, we just didn’t play.
“Someone said to me afterwards that we froze and maybe so.
“We certainly paid them too much respect and, although I got a response in the second half, I’ve got to remind my players that we start Saturday games at 3pm and not 4pm.
“Last season we might have got away with that kind of thing but not at Ryman League level, or against a Ryman League side in the FA Cup.
“It’s a steep learning curve and we’ve got to be more professional, rather than turning up expecting to dominate teams.
“On Saturday we only played for half-an-hour and that’s just not good enough, at any level of football.”
