FA Cup success is a boost for Burnham Ramblers
3:16pm Thursday 5th September 2013 in Sport
BURNHAM Ramblers’ FA Cup success has been a boost both on and off the pitch, according to manager Keith Wilson.
The Leslie Field side beat Redbridge 3-1 last weekend to progress to the first qualifying round of the competition.
Ramblers pocketed nearly £2,000 in prize money with the win and have the chance to go even further when they host AFC Sudbury, on September 14.
Burnham will secure a further £3,000 should they beat their Ryman League division one north rivals.
But while he admitted the cash injection is most welcome, boss Wilson believes the cup run has also had a positive effect on his players.
Wilson said: “It’s vitally important for our football club to have a run like this in the FA Cup.
“The prize money certainly helps the chairman pay off a couple of bills that had been owing.
“There’s not a surplus amount of money and we don’t have anyone to pump cash in.
“But it also keeps our run going and people realise that we can compete at this level.”
Burnham return to league action this weekend when they travel to play Essex rivals Harlow Town.
The Hawks’ home ground is Barrow Farm, where they play their football on an artificial pitch.
Burnham are also in action next Tuesday night, when they host Ware in the league at Leslie Field.
