Brown hails Maldon and Tiptree hat-trick hero Robinson

MALDON & TIPTREE assistant boss Jody Brown hailed hat-trick hero James Robinson after his side’s 3-2 victory at Ware.

The vital win keeps them eight points clear at the top of Ryman One North, although second-placed Grays Athletic - who have four games in hand - kept up the pressure with a 4-0 victory at home to Wroxham.

Maldon were two-up and cruising on Tuesday night before the hosts clawed back to 2-2.

Robinson then completed his treble before keeper Joe Wright saved the day with a dramatic late penalty save.

“James has chipped in with some vital goals recently and scored eight from his last four starts,” said Brown.

“They’ve been so important and these ones, in particular, could prove invaluable.

“It was such a big win and a real battle, from start to finish.

“Ware were very physical and we had to deal with so many high balls into our box, which caused no end of problems.

“We were two-up and flying and it seemed a question of how many we might score.

“But Ware equalised from two set-pieces and that’s a concern and something we’ve got to rectify as soon as possible.”
