Gardner given chance to shine at Heybridge Swifts

HEYBRIDGE Swifts have given one of their talented young strikers an opportunity to shine.

Under-18s Alliance player Ricky Gardner has signed a contract to play for the first team and was in the squad for last night’s Needham match.

He is currently in his second year studying at the Plume Football College and was a member of the highly-successful Plume team that won the Essex Cup for the first time last season.

His hard work, effort and prolific scoring record over the past three seasons for the Swifts Youth Alliance squad has caught the attention of first-team manager Hawkes.

Heybridge chairman Nick Bowyer said: “Ricky is the first of many talented youngsters this club is producing for the future.

“Myself, (head of youth) Craig Riches and his manager, Gary Perkins, are extremely proud of his achievement and wish him every success with this opportunity.”
