Burnham Ramblers lose out in thriller at Roots Hall

Burnham Ramblers lost out 4-2 to Southend United in the third round of the Essex Senior Cup.

But it was visiting Burnham that took the lead at Roots Hall on Tuesday night.

Charlie Kirby opened the scoring after 40 seconds following a magnificent solo run.

But Southend equalised in less than two minutes through Jonson Clarke-Harris.

David Martin then gave the home side the lead on 17 minutes.

But Burnham hit back when Kirby equalised from the penalty spot seven minutes later after Brad Hunter was pulled back in the area.

Southend retook the lead on 78 minutes as Clarke-Harris grabbed his second of the night.

In injury-time Jason Williams made the game safe for Southend.
