Ramblers boss Wilson wants strong performances from his side

BURNHAM Ramblers boss Keith Wilson has told his players to buck their ideas up.

The club are steeling themselves for a pivotal run of games, including next week’s eagerly-awaited Essex Senior Cup tie at Southend United.

They won 5-0 at Bethnal Green United on Wednesday night in the Essex Senior League Cup second round second leg, for a 5-1 aggregate success.

They now visit Takeley in the league on Saturday.

Wilson demanded a reaction after last weekend’s “dreadful” 4-1 defeat at home to Eton Manor.

“We were shocking and, although the score flattered them, we didn’t deserve anything from the game,” said the Burnham boss.

“We took the lead and had a great chance to go 2-0 up.

“Had that gone in, we would have won comfortably but we conceded bad goals and, for all our huffing and puffing, didn’t create anything in the second half.

“The boys let themselves down and need to learn from it.

“I need a reaction because we’ve got some massive games coming up.”

Wilson says Saturday’s trip to Takeley is a “six-pointer” and then his side play under the lights at Roots Hall on Tuesday.

“It’s an excuse to say the boys were focused on the Southend game and that’s why we lost against Eton Manor,” said the Burnham boss.

“The opposite should apply.

“It should be an incentive and they should be busting a gut to make sure they’re in my team next Tuesday.

“A few of them need to pull their socks up and start taking responsibility.

“But they’re an honest bunch and they know they let themselves down on Saturday.”
