FIFTEEN uninsured cars were seized from drivers during a successful traffic operation in Tilbury.

Essex Police held a traffic operation on the A1090 last Thursday, leading to a host of drivers receiving penalty points and fines.

During the operation, 15 drivers had their vehicles seized after they were found to be driving without valid insurance.

A stolen vehicle was also recovered during the day-long operation.

Throughout the rest of the operation, 42 people were found driving without a seatbelt and 16 drivers were found driving without a valid MOT.

Each driver was dealt with accordingly by Essex Police.

A further 21 drivers were found to be speeding.

A total of seven drivers were found to be driving while using a mobile phone and each received six points and a fine.

Matt Hine, operational tasking supervisor at the casualty reduction section, said: “Driving without insurance is a serious offence which can result in a fixed penalty notice, points on your licence as well as vehicle seizure fees.

“If you choose to drive without insurance, it will only be a matter of time before you’re caught and your car is towed away.”

And the Grays community policing team were out in Grays on Monday conducting another operation.

The team tweeted: “The team are out in Grays again today targeting criminals using our roads.

“The driver of this one failed (pictured) to stop, had no drivers licence and was wanted for failing to appear at court. Arrested and will be staying with us until court tomorrow.”
