A county council is claiming there is no issue with a set of 'faulty' traffic lights - despite a host of complaints from residents.
Drivers are reporting that the traffic lights on High Street, South Benfleet, just past the Hoy and Helmet Pub, are far too reactive.
Residents are claiming the lights are turning red instantly after pedestrians are pressing the button.
But Essex County Council's highways department visited the site today, and is insisted everything is working "normally and safely".
Canvey residents are claiming the lights are part of the problem with the huge queues of traffic from Canvey Way during the morning rush hour.
A spokesperson from Essex Highways said: “Engineers have just checked all the vehicle-activated detectors and wiring loops on this crossing and everything seems to be working normally and safely.
"There are issues caused by the proximity of the crossing to the roundabout, but the crossing signals are programmed to deal safely with that. We are continuing to monitor, both remotely and on site, the operation of the lights here and if needed we will take appropriate action.”
