THE family of a mother who died after a battle with cancer vowed to continue her campaign to have tests brought in earlier.

Vicky Fenn, from Benfleet, left daughter, Roxy, eight, as an orphan after her father also died, from heart disease.

Roxy has moved to Cambridge with Vicky’s sister, Teresa Cameron, 41, her husband and two children.

Mrs Cameron said: “We thought she had a lot longer, but sadly she took a turn for the worse over Easter.

“Roxy is actually doing really well, she has moved in with us and started her new school today.

“Vicky never wanted anyone else to have to go through what she has, she doesn’t want any children to suffer like Roxy. “Throughout her whole battle, she never said poor me, it was never about her, it was about creating memories with Roxy, and doing what she can for others.

“This petition is her legacy.”

After the diagnosis, when Vicky was 36, she set up a petition to reduce the mandatory age for mammograms to be offered in the UK to between 25 and 30-years-old.

She found out that the disease was terminal when she was 37 and died on Wednesday.

Currently, mandatory checks are available to women over the age of 50.

Vicky set up the Facebook page Fenn’s Fighters to aid her campaign, which announced her death.

The petition had 14,990 when the newspaper went to press, but needs 100,000 to be debated in parliament.

On the petition, Vicky wrote: “I was diagnosed with breast cancer age 36, at 37 I was told it was terminal.

“I have an eight-year-old daughter who has already lost her dad to heart disease. “Because of my age, I never dreamt I’d have breast cancer.

“I want everyone to have a better chance of survival; not only for themselves, but for their children, parents, siblings, friends.

“Cancer does not discriminate, so why are mandatory mammograms only available for women 50+”
