A man accused of murdering a teenager chased him down and stabbed him twice in an attack in broad daylight, a court heard.

Allcie Houlder, 23, of no fixed address, appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday for the first day of the trial into the death of Nico Ramsay, 19.

The jury was shown CCTV footage of Mr Ramsey, from London, walking from Napier Avenue in Southend onto Queens Road at 2.15pm on February 13, 2016.

The footage then showed Ramsey chased by three men, which the court heard was Houlder, Nathan Sylvester, 26, of Perth Road, Plaistow, and Troy Lewis, 22, of Odessa Road in east London.

In the footage, Mr Ramsey can be seen to be dragged to the floor by the men.

Then a man, which the prosecution say is Houlder, pulled out a knife and thrust it twice into Mr Ramsey’s chest.

Jason Bartfeld QC, prosecuting, said: “We can clearly see, when you look at the footage, a knife in Allcie Houlder’s hand.

“It’s clear that Houlder was holding a knife and it was Houlder that inflicted the wounds to Nico Ramsey that killed him.”

The footage then shows Mr Ramsey being dragged along the floor by a man, who the prosecution say is Mr Sylvester, who hit him several times until Ramsey’s nephew, Kai, intervened.

The three men then left the scene on foot and later called a taxi to pick them up from Westcliff Parade.

The prosecution say Houlder then disposed of a bloody knife in an alleyway, which was subsequently discovered by police.

The court heard how Mr Ramsey had worked as a drug runner for Mr Sylvester - who went by the alias of Patrick - but the two had “fallen out”.

Nico Ramsey died from his wounds four days later in hospital.

Houlder had left the country shortly after the attack and was extradited back from Venezuela on September 30 last year after being arrested in Caracas. Houlder denies murder.

Mr Bartfeld said to the jury: “If you find he was acting in self defence when he stabbed Nico Ramsey, then you will find him not guilty.”
