The 64-year-old was walking his dog along London Road, shortly before 8:30pm yesterday evening, when he was approached by the two men.

One of the men stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife.

He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The victim described the two men as wearing dark clothing and bandanas which covered their faces.

Chief Inspector Lewis Basford said: “We believed this to be an isolated incident, however extra officer patrols have been put in place in the area and we advise people to remain vigilant.

“We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and saw men matching these descriptions.”
