Snow hit south Essex with the Met Office warning of more bad weather coming to our towns.

Temperatures plunged to below three degrees across Basildon, Southend and Canvey yesterday.

The Met Office warned rural communities in Essex could be cut off as roads became hazardous, with some places experiencing up to 20cm of snow yesterday.

The Met Office also warned drivers to take extra care when driving on the road, and gave advice on how to stay warm inside your homes.

And with roads blocked and motorists recommended to stay home residents enjoyed their day of snow and then shared all the fun they were having and some of the pretty pictures they took during the day.

From snowmen to sledges youngsters, and those young at heart, were able to enjoy seasonal fun, including the odd snowball fight.

While some preferred to admire the scene from the warmth through a window others wrapped up warm and took to the streets.

A program of gritting was organised by Essex County Council to try and clear main roads as quickly as possible.

The Met Office has forecasted a yellow weather warning from 4am until 11am, with temperatures expected to be two degrees, with rain, sleet and snow continuing today. Motorists are advised to leave extra time to travel and take care particularly as roads become busy during rush hours and to remember even when the snow clears ice remains.
