Police are appealing for information about an armed robbery.

Martin’s news agents in Clay Hill Road, Basildon, was held up at around 7.15am today.

A man entered the shop and threatened a worker with a knife before leaving the scene with thousands of pounds in cash.

The newsagents is still cordoned off and police are on scene.

The suspect has been described as white, aged in his 30s and around 5ft 8ins.

He was reported to wearing a black beanie hat, a black scarf, a dark blue puffed style jacket with hood, blue jeans, dark blue shoes, gloves and carrying a black rucksack with one strap and a yellow logo on the back.

Police are currently at the scene carrying out enquiries.

Anyone who saw or has information about the incident, has CCTV near to the scene or was driving at the time and has dash cam footage is asked to contact Basildon CID on 101 quoting 138 of 23/10.
