Hundreds of superheroes invaded a park at the weekend to take part in an inaugural inflatable assault course event.

The event, which was organised by Havens Hospice and held in Wat Tyler Park, saw participants race across a superhero-themed assault course.

Entitled Kapow!, the assault course consisted of ten inflatable obstacles including a UV bubble tunnel, foam maze and Big Bertha – a giant slide – set over 5km. It is the first course of its kind and size in Essex.

There was a festival feel to the day with live music from local artist Charlie Wallis, stone baked pizzas, beer and prosecco courtesy of All Fired Up and We’R’Fizz so participants could relax, socialise with friends, family and supporters after they had completed the course.

Susie May, events fundraiser for Havens, said: “We don’t charge a penny for our care - and that’s only possible because our fantastic supporters who take part in events like Kapow to raise vital funds.

“By taking part in Kapow!, our runners have helped another baby, child, young person or adult living with a serious illness be pain free and comfortable as possible and helping us be there for those who need us and their families for as long as we’re needed.”
