Details announced about second business park planned for Canvey

One unit of the 28 proposed for the development at Roscommon Way has already been reserved, planning documents have revealed.

However, London-based agent Christopher Wickham said he was not aware of which business had reserved the unit. Larry Fenttiman, of Inner London Developments (Canvey) which owns the land, did not respond.

New planning documents have also revealed the layout of the development and shown that it will be developed in five stages.

Planning permission for the development was granted in November 2016, subject to the finer details such as layout, landscaping and access. It is believed that warehouses, factories, a car showroom and cafes are planned for the land.

Castle Point councillor Chas Mumford welcomed the step forward. He said: “It is progressing. It is really good news that a firm has already been interested in coming here.

“I am intrigued to know who it is. I would absolutely like to see some big names coming to the island - I think that would be a major boost to Canvey.

“It would encourage people to come here. “Anything positive like this can only be good.”

He added that he didn’t share some people’s concerns about the increase in traffic this could cause, saying that he hoped people would use local buses to get to the retail park.

He said: “The area is a bit neglected at the moment. I think the increase in traffic might help stop the irresponsible people who race along Roscommon Way and make them go somewhere else - hopefully off the island.”

The Echo revealed last month that Canvey is set to be boosted by a cash injection with Inner London Developments (Northwick) and Castle Point Council agreeing how much money the developer will be giving to the council to build another retail park.

This one, in Northwick Road, near Morrisons, will feature a garden centre and a Costa Coffee drive-through. Sports Direct, B&M and a high end supermarket have shown an interest.
