SHOEBURYNESS High School has kept its reputation for outstanding annual musical productions and won its fourth consecutive award.

This year’s Happy Days show was reviewed by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association and awarded the Best Youth Production once again.

The school was up against all youth groups in the South East region.

Lead performers Jake Bailey, Luke Reid and Alex Cohen were fortunate enough to be nominated for the Best Youth Performer award for their portrayals of the legendary Fonzie and Ralph Malph.

Head boy Jake took home the coveted award.

Headteacher, Mark Schofield, said: “To win this award three times is an amazing achievement - to win it four times in a row is out of this world.”.

Recently they have been nominated for the ‘Best Chorus’ and ‘Best Technical’ awards, which is a huge accolade as this is in competition with adult societies within the area.

Tessa Davies, east regional representative from the National Operatic and Dramatic Association, said: “The school has a reputation for excellence in its performances and the current cast are maintaining and even improving on that reputation.”

The school students have continued to triumph when taking part in The Great Big Dance Off at Leas Cliff Hall Theatre, Folkestone.

They had the opportunity to perform a choreographed piece that told the tale of a party of Syrian refugees and their journey to safety.

Through their emotive performance, the Shoeburyness dancers were crowned winners of the East Anglian Regional Finals for ‘Best Dance’.

They are now in line for the National Finals in Wellingborough this coming July.
