Last Wednesday the best of British values were on display.
We saw extreme courage and dedication to duty. PC Keith Palmer paid the ultimate price when he came to defence of Parliament. A man who dedicated his life to defending our country as a soldier before joining the police. Words cannot do him justice.

We saw decency and compassion. Those who witnessed the horrendous attacks on those at Westminster Bridge pushed aside their distress and went to the aid of the victims. We saw MP Tobias Ellwood and other bystanders try to save PC Palmer’s life until the paramedics came.
We saw the Dunkirk spirit as schoolchildren caught up in the Westminster lockdown organised a singsong to keep everyone’s spirits up. Those of us locked in the Commons chamber were quite unruffled as our excellent doorkeepers kept everything under control.

This is the land of hope and glory, mother of the free.
When our values are under attack we become resolute in defending them. The Mother of Parliaments continued on Thursday with business as usual.

And that is the story of last Wednesday. We will remember brave PC Palmer. We will remember the actions of Tobias Ellwood. And we will just get on with it. We stand resolute in the face of terrorism.

There are many people who work at Westminster who live here in Thurrock, including a number of police officers. If any of you have any feedback about what happened get in touch with me at
