FRIENDS and family have made a £500 donation to Mind in memory of a popular Eastwood man.

A huge fundraising campaign was held after Steve Smith, 48, who was also known as Brazil due to his love of the Brazilian football team, died suddenly in January.

About 150 people contributed to the online fundraising page which was set up in order to give him a good send-off.

A huge football tournament was also held at the Chase Sports Centre in Prittlewell to boost the total, which eventually came to £5,138.

After paying for Mr Smith’s funeral, headstone and two memorial benches his family have now added more cash to the leftover money in order to donate a round £500 to the mental health charity Mind, in memory of the popular carer.
