SEVENTEEN cars were confiscated and four drivers arrested during a road crime operation in Basildon.

Officers stationed themselves around Felmores near the Watermill Beefeater and ANPR cameras were used to catch drivers in the act of driving offences, such as driving without insurance and one driver who was driving with a cracked windscreen cracked and passenger door which would not open from the outside.

Casualty reduction manager Adam Pipe said: “We arrested four people; two for drug driving then towards the end of the day we arrested two others following a short pursuit and decampment which ended in the Thurrock area.

“They were arrested for a variety of offences including theft and harassment.”

He added: “Seventeen vehicles were seized, it was a phenomenal day. They were seized for offences such as having no insurance.”
