A MAN has appeared in court accused of carrying out a burglary spree on Canvey.

Unemployed Micky Scott, of no fixed address, is alleged to have committed eight burglaries on the island, in less than three weeks.

He is also charged with one count of theft and one count of making off without payment - both relating to incidents on Canvey.

The 25-year-old is further accused of carrying out a burglary in Kettering, Northamptonshire.

Scott’s alleged spree began on Tuesday, September 6, with a break-in at a property in Ivy Walk, Canvey.

He is accused of ransacking another home in Primrose Close three days later, stealing a Pandora bracelet and a gold bracelet.

Scott later stole an antique air pistol from a house in Cherry Close, it is alleged.

Another charge relates to jewellery stolen from a house in Rose Road on Friday, September 16.

He is accused of entering a house in Leigh Road as a trespasser on Saturday, September 17, before stealing a TAG Heuer watch and jewellery from a house in Dovercliff Road two days later.

The spree is alleged to have come to an end when a white Ford Fiesta, jewellery and electrical items were taken from a house in Gifhorn on Sunday, September 25.

Scott is also charged with fleeing a petrol station without paying for £30 of fuel later that day.

Two further charges relate to the theft of £90 from a house on Canvey between Friday, September 2 and Tuesday, September 6.

Lesley Chipps, prosecuting, sent Scott’s case to Basildon Crown Court. She said: “Certain of these matters are indictable only and definitely have to go to the crown court.

“I would say these matters should all be joined up.”

Scott, wearing a red prison-issue t-shirt, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address, during the hearing. He did not enter a plea.

Anthony Harbridge, chairman of the bench, said: “We feel that these matters should be joined. It is in the interests of the defendant and in the interests of justice.”

Scott will next appear at court on Thursday, October 27.

Det Supt Kevin Baldwin, district commander for Basildon, said: “The arrest and charge of Micky Scott shows that we are clearly focused on people causing harm in that community.

“It is an example of the hard work we have done.”
