A LORRY driver blocked an entire road after trying an overly ambitious U-turn after a serious road accident.
Eastern Avenue, in Southend, was blocked near its junction with Bournemouth Park Road after a crash involving a motorcyclist this morning.
The biker has been airlifted to hospital and the road remained closed throughout the morning.
As traffic backed up on the Southend bound lane of Eastern Avenue, a woman driving a long flat bed lorry became impatient and decided to do a U-turn across a grass verge onto the opposite carriageway.
Unfortunately the plan backfired when she became stuck fast across the road, bringing traffic on that side of the road to a standstill as well.
Irate motorists shouted at her as she tried in vain to dislodge the lorry.
Eventually a digger was brought in to pull the vehicle free. Finally dislodged, the woman jumped from her cab to thank her rescuers.
