Police are holding their annual general meeting for residents on November 11.

The meeting, run by Thurrock Independent Advisory Group, is open to all interested in helping Essex Police to provide a fair and non-discriminatory police service.

This year, the agenda will include the government's counter terrorism programme and a Q&A with Chief Inspector Leigh Norris.

The key roles of the group are to:

• build communities' trust and confidence

• promote community cohesion

• act as critical friends

• promote the reporting and prevention of hate crime

The special meeting will be held on Wednesday November 11 between 6.30pm and 8.30pm and is being held at the South East Essex College in Grays High Street.

Items on the agenda include:

• a presentation on PREVENT – the government's counter terrorism programme, with information for communities

• a review of the group's activity over the last 12 months

• planning activities for the next 12 months

• a question and answer session with Neil Woodbridge, chair of the group, and Chief Inspector Leigh Norris of Essex Police

• invitation to join the group
