A THURROCK councillor has slammed the government after record new figures showed net migration reached 330,000 in the year to March.

The number is more than three times higher the government’s target of 100,000, and is 10,000 higher than the previous highest number on record in June 2005.

Net migration is the difference between those entering the country and leaving.

Tim Aker, also an MEP said: "The EU's open free movement rules mean we cannot stop those coming to Southern Europe, obtaining EU passports and coming to the UK. Islamic State keep threatening to flood our shores and this government has done nothing to secure our borders.

"This government has no clue. It doesn't know who is in this country or have any plan to regulate who comes into Britain.

"It has surrendered our borders and spits on the sacrifices that have been made to keep this country free and safe.

"We need to leave the EU and get control of our borders like Australia does. The only people offering a fair and sensible solution to this immigration crisis is UKIP."
