THE mother of a seven-yearold girl who died suddenly thanked the community for its support.

Malaika Adam, a pupil at St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School, in Basildon, died on May 15 after a stomach bug.

Her school held a special assembly and released hundreds of white helium balloons to celebrate Malaika’s life.

Well-wishers have donated more than £400 to help with funeral costs.

Malaika’s mum, Donna Howe, 38, of Polsteads, Vange, said: “I would like to sayamassive thank you to everyone for their support. We are very grateful.”

The funeral Mass will take place on Monday at St Basil’s Church, in Luncies Road, Basildon, at 12.30pm.

Donna said: “It will be an open invite as Malaika touched the hearts of many.

“There is no dress code, but Malaika’s favourite colours were pink and purple.”

All flowers will go to St Teresa’s or the church.

Refreshments will be provided at the school after the Mass.

A service will take place at 3pm at the church for tributes.

Family and close friends only will later make their way to Pitsea Crematorium before joining everyone at the school, in Elsenham Crescent, to celebrate Malaika’s life.

Malaika’s grandmother, Cheryl Lee, 59, also thanked supporters for their donations and kind words.

She said: “We would really like to thank everyone for their support.

“People we don’t even know have made donations.

“Malaika touched the hearts of everyone.

“She had such a bubbly personality and we hope everyone will join us in wearing her favourite colours.”
