FLESH-EATING zombies shattered the peace of a quiet south Essex village, savaging survivors of an apocalypse.

The gore-fest erupted as filming got under way for new horror film, Extinction, which is being shot by Southend-based production company, Silent Studios Productions.

Director Jason Wright, 45, from Thorpe Bay, said: “I thought the shoot went very well and I’m very proud of everyone who was involved.

“The results were amazing.”

Long-time horror fan Helen Murphy, 40, from Basildon, was one of those who underwent a transformation at the hands of make-up artists for the day’s filming, in the village of Bicknacre, near South Woodham Ferrers.

She said: “It was like a dream come true for me. I’m a huge horror fan.

“It was fantastic to be made up as a zombie and to meet so many fun people. I‘d love to take part in another one.”
