A COUPLE who started a business delivering freshly-cooked roast dinners to people in Southend and Rochford have been spotted by the Hairy Bikers.

Shelley Bruce and her husband Vic started Truly Roasted from their home in Main Road, Hawkwell, a year ago, but are now set to appear before a bigger audience.

Their exploits were spotted by a BBC production team and the Hairy Bikers, Dave Myers and Si King, are now set to be filmed checking out the scrumptious roasts.

The couple’s business has taken off and they now serve up a whopping 60 roasts on some Sundays.

Shelley said: “They came down and checked the location and screen tested us and now the Hairy Bikers will be visiting us for their show.

“It’s very exciting that we’ll get to meet them. They will be filmed delivering some of our meals.

“We only started a year ago and its spread by word of mouth, really.

“We’re delivering between 40 to 60 meals each Sunday to all sorts of people.

“We thought it might be popular with elderly people, but we get busy families and young couples who just want a lazy day.

“Some people don’t know how to cook a good roast and some think it takes too long, so we’re ideal for them.”

Vic is usually the one doing the deliveries while his wife does all the cooking.

Shelley, who also runs her beautician business from home, added: “I love cooking, so it’s no chore for me. We get our meat and vegetables from London. All the meals are pre-ordered for specific time slots.

“Everything is packed up as soon as it comes out of the oven and is dispatched immediately, so it arrives piping hot.”

Roasts, costing from £7.50 to £8.50, include chicken, beef, pork and lamb served with home-made Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and seasonal veg with gravy.

Children’s meals are also available and there is even a vegetarian cottage pie option.

If Shelley’s customers have room, there is also a range of desserts, including sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownies, to enjoy.

It is the latest show to be filmed in the area and follows the success of Jamie Oliver’s Jamie and Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast, which is filmed on Southend Pier.
