PLANS to replace Basildon’s famous nighclub complex with three restaurants and a kids’ soft play centre are likely to create 70 jobs.

Proposals for the site, nicknamed “Bas Vagas”, were announced last week, but more details have now emerged.

The American theme restaurant chain Coast to Coast, which has 12 branches across Britain, is one of three businesses signed up for the Festival Leisure Park revamp.

Under the plans, Liquid, Envy, JJs and New York New York nightclubs will close, with the company which runs them opening a smaller club in the neighbouring former Sky Bar.

The new club will be open until 6am from Thursday until Sunday every week.

The current clubs close at 4am.

Other changes will include better CCTV, a new taxi rank and an area near the cinema for small-scale performances.

James Doran, of club operator the Luminar Group, said: “The development is good news for the late-night economy in the town.

“We are excited about the plans and confident this will be positive for local clubbers.

“In the meantime, its business as usual at Liquid, with a fantastic line up planned for Christmas and the new year.”

David Diemer, of site manager Aviva Investors, said: “Festival Leisure Park has always been a mix of daytime and nighttime visitors and the clubs’ move into their new building will provide clubbers with a fantastic new venue.

“All work should be completed and ant the venues open to customers in 2015.

The changes are expected to make it an even more popular leisure destination.”

Stephen Metcalfe, Tory MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, said: “In principle, it all seems very good.

“Presumably, if the club is moving to a smaller premises that is what it needs to do.”
