STUDENTS from Gable Hall School took part in a marathon challenge to raise money for charity.

Teachers Miss Pooley and Mr England took 25 pupils to take part in the World Marathon Challenge in order to raise money for the Save the Children Charity last week.

As a team they needed to cover 26.2 miles (105 laps of the track) 200 metres at a time, competing against thousands of schools across the world. The school’s GHS team completed the marathon in 2:07, beating Paula Radcliffe’s current World Record of 2:15 and narrowly missing the Men’s World Record held by Wilson Kipsang by a mere 4 minutes.

A spokeswoman for the school said: “This fantastic time means the team are currently ranked in 3rd place worldwide.

“The pupils were fantastic all day and continued to show enthusiasm throughout a very tiring day and even came to Mr England’s rescue when he pulled his hamstring.”
