A HOME makeover is taking shape thanks to generous donations from local businesses.

Kerrie Eley, 26, of Methersgate, Basildon, was named the lucky winner of a £7,000 Echo prize after her kind-hearted sister put her name forward.

Her shower blew up while she was recovering from double jaw surgery to correct an overbite, and the tale touched the hearts of readers, who voted for her to get the prize.

Kerrie was forced to use her nan’s bathroom and brush her teeth over the kitchen sink when disaster struck a month after moving into her own home.

City Plumping Supplies has given her a dream bathroom and fitted a new bathroom suite, thanks to the Echo competition.

She popped into Scape Interiors, on Leigh Broadway, this week to choose a table and chairs, sideboard, and mirror.

Kerrie also visited Gardners, in nearby Rectory Road, to pick up some paint and wallpaper. Leading discount retailer Choice, which stocks homeware, clothes and gifts, donated £1,000.

The Essex-based business has stores at the Mayflower Retail Park, Basildon, Rectory Road, Hadleigh, and Stadium Way, Rayleigh Weir Kerrie, who has her own business making bags and works at Seetec training in Hockley, said: “Everything has been ordered now, but I’m just waiting for it all to be fitted.

“I just can’t wait for the house to be finished now. It’s so exciting."

After undergoing surgery Kerrie could not wait to move into the house after buying it in November 2013.

Sadly her nan passed away last month, so winning the competition came as a big, happy surprise.
