RUNNERS will get a colourful makeover in a bid to raise money for a children’s hospice.

Fundraisers will be getting pelted with coloured powder as part of a brand new event in aid of Havens Hospices in September.

Havens Hospices’ first ever ‘Colour Chase’ will be held in the wooded grounds that surround the children’s hospice Little Havens in Thundersley later this month.

The event is the first of its kind in Essex and will see runners take on a 5k course and try not to get covered in coloured powder thrown on them by a number of masked colour bandits hiding out along the route.

Jane Hopkins, events fundraiser, said: “Our Colour Chase is different from all the other colour runs out there.

“You can’t hide from them, but our masked colour throwing bandits will be hiding from runners as they make their way around the woods.

“They will surprise runners by covering them in brightly coloured paint when they least expect it.”

The charity, which incorporates Fair Havens Hospice and Little Havens Hospice, is hoping to attract 300 people to take part to help raise £20,000 for the seriously ill babies, children, teenagers and adults who rely on their specialist care.

Jane said: “The Colour Chase is going to be brilliant fun, full of surprises and finished off with a celebration party at the end of the run - so don’t miss out.”

Colour Chase is open to all abilities but runners must be at least 12 years old to take part.

Entry is £15 per person and includes a t-shirt to run in and food at the celebration party with music and other entertainment.

There will also be an opportunity to purchase bags of coloured powder at the finish.
