A WOMAN will be trekking through the hills of Burma in memory of her grandad, who died in 2012.

Jessica Holmes, 23, of Stanford-le-Hope, lost her grandad Peter Budge, 74, after he suffered heart failure.

Miss Holmes, who works as a sound engineer on the West End production of the musical Wicked, is hoping to raise awareness of the condition and money for the British Heart Foundation.

She said: “I’ve done work with the charity before, but this is completely different and I am quite nervous.

“I’ll be walking just under 100 kilometres through the Shan Hills, and with the humidity and all the mountains, I can imagine it to be quite the challenge.”

Miss Holmes added that her grandad, who spent most of his life in Orsett, was a well-loved community man. She said: “He was a very important member of the Orsett community, where he had lived for most of his life.

“He was heavily involved in the Masons and all aspects of the village.”

Miss Holmes will be taking up the challenge in February next year and is hoping to raise £4,000 for the British Heart Foundation.

She said: “It’s an amazing charity and I want to raise awareness and money for the campaign Mending Broken Hearts, which is a fight against heart failure.”
