People living in the centre of Braintree are expected to live nine years less than those just a few miles away.
A new report by Braintree Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Commitee has also found large parts of the district have limited access to GP and health services.
Those living in Cressing and Stisted can expect to live 84.6 years while residents just 4.3 miles away in Great Notley have a life expectancy of just 75.6 years.
In Witham, the life expectancy in the Chipping Hill and Central ward is 77 years, in Kelvedon it is 80.7 years.
