POLICE have encouraged parents to be alert after reports a man attempted to take photos of a toddler in Promenade Park.

Essex Police and Maldon District Council were contacted after the alleged incident in Park Drive on Sunday, July 15.

Police say the incident, reported by a dad from Southend, is being treated as “isolated” but encouraged people to be alert.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “This was reported to have happened at around 4.45pm and was reported to us at 6.32pm on July 15.

“The man was challenged by the parent of the child and he then left the park. We work closely with Maldon District Council’s Community Protection Team, and regular, daily patrols are carried out in the area.

“This is being treated as an isolated incident and we would encourage the community to be aware but not alarmed.”

Richard Holmes, director of customers & community at the council, said: “The council’s Community Protection Team were contacted in regards to the concerning behaviour of a man in Promenade Park on Sunday.

“We understand the behaviour was also reported to Essex police and we are continuing to work with them in their inquiries.

“Our Community Protection Team have increased their vigilance in the area and Promenade Park remains a very safe place for people of all ages.
