A FOODBANK has thanked Tesco stores for donating more than 1,000kgs of food between them.

Colchester Foodbank is grateful to Tesco Highwoods, who donated 756kg, and Tesco Hythe, who donated 450kg.

Anne Barney, lead volunteer from the Colchester Foodbank charity, said: “If you missed us, don't worry as there is a permanent collection point in both stores.

“Everything donated in Tesco comes to Colchester Foodbank, who work in partnership with Brightlingsea and Wivenhoe to provide emergency food to local people in crisis.

“Many people experience financial difficulties and are referred by frontline professionals, such as nurses, health visitors, social workers and the Citizens Advice to our foodbank, so they may provide for themselves and their families.”

The foodbank still needs long life juice cartons, carrier bags, long life milk, washing powder and washing up liquid.

Michael Beckett, Colchester Foodbank leader, added: “We are also very appreciative of the time given by the volunteers giving up their weekend, and to the generosity of the shoppers who give us a can or a carton when they shop.

“We are very grateful to Tesco for hosting the collection and for making us so welcome.

“Thank you to all involved."

Colchester Foodbank's Food HQ premises fund is totalling £20,179, for a new permanent building.

People can donate £10 to pay for a brick.

Donations can be made via Co-Op Bank. Account name: Colchester Foodbank. Account number: 65361687. Sort Code: 08/92/99 or in person at the foodbank at Moorside Business Park.

Colchester Foodbank charity is also asking for ‘change for change'.

People can recycle an empty jar by collecting their loose change and when the jar is full, they can donate it to the foodbank.
