PERFORMERS, donations and businesses are being called on to answer a rallying call for the first ever May Day fete to support a severely disabled teenager.

May Day for Maisy will be held at Ramsey War Memorial field in Wix Road, Ramsey, and will feature a range of attractions including stalls, crafts, traditional fete games and musicians.

There will also be a Maisy Trail and and Maisy Chain - a paper daisy chain coloured in by children in the town - displayed at the event.

The idea is to raise as much money as possible for Maisy Kidd-Munnery who has cerebral palsy and a severe form of epilepsy.

The 13-year-old was born nine weeks prematurely and suffered two brain haemorrhages leaving her blind and unable to speak.

Her family have an ongoing online funding page to raise cash towards sensory equipment and learning resources as well as specialist equipment.

Kirsti Ayling, who is helping to organise the event, said: “This is the opportunity for all to work together as a community for a fantastic day raising funds for little Maisy.

“We want as many local musicians, dancers and artists involved as possible showcasing their talents as well as stalls selling crafts and other small items.

“We are urging people to get in touch and spread the word.

“We are going for a traditional theme so they’ll be lots to see and do for everyone.

“Think traditional lemonade, delightful food, may day dancing and old style fete games.

“We want to get everyone involved and make this a special spring spectacular for the love of Maisy.”

It is hoped the event, which is being staged on May 7, will grow to become an annual tradition for the town.

Maisy’s mum Sophie, of Dovercourt, said: “Recently Maisy has had to wait for a lot of equipment as we haven’t had the funds there to pay for it.

“We have run out of some funding now because she is 13 now.

“Charities are struggling themselves and some only fund once.

“But with the support we have been able to achieve the things we do for Maisy.

“We always strive to give her the best we possibly can.”
