JOOLS Holland’s saxophonist is set to bring some swing into Burns Night with a special date booked at the Electric Palace.

Derek Nash, who has been a staple of Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra for 14 years, will be performing at the historic venue, in Harwich, on Thursday, January 25.

Nash has backed music for an eclectic mix of musical stars including Amy Winehouse, Sir Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox, and Sir Tom Jones.

The saxophonist has also performed at Glastonbury Festival, the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms Concert and much more.

Nash will be fronting his own acoustic quartet for the Electric Palace event and the group is completed by world-class musicians.

The musicians are multi-award winning pianist Dave Newton, who brought his Big Screen Trio to the Electric Palace last year, and jazz superstar Jamie Cullum’s original rhythm section of Geoff Gascoyne, on bass, and Sebastiaan De Krom, on drums.

They will be playing selections from their latest record called You’ve Got To Dig It To Dig It, You Dig? as well as a range of tunes from the world of jazz and funk, with Nash swinging on all four saxophones – soprano, alto, tenor and baritone.

Simon Ashley, Electric Palace spokesman, said: “Derek Nash is one of the most vibrant, energetic and hard-working musicians in any music field today.

“He and the quartet are equally adept at smooth cool, groovy funk and gorgeous ballads and they play it all with great fun and feeling.

“We are delighted to secure such a top-class group to play at the Electric Palace and we can guarantee a good time will be had by all, keeping those new year vibes well and truly bubbling.”

Doors open at 7.30pm on the night.

Tickets are £10 and can be bought in advance online from www.electricpalace.com and in person from the Harwich Box Office, Oxley’s Delicatessen, M K Jordan, the Café On The Pier and the Alma Inn, King’s Head Street.
