A traffic operation held in Chelmsford saw four people arrested.

Officers from Essex Polices Casualty Reduction Section held a dedicated operation in Chelmsford on Tuesday, November 21 to help to reduce those killed and seriously injured on the roads.

Four people were arrested including a 51-year-old man from Clacton, on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs. He was later released pending further enquiries.

A second person was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and two people were both arrested on suspicion of breaching their bail.

Matt Hine, Operational Tasking Supervisor at the Casualty Reduction Section, said: “Driving while under the influence of drink or drugs is unacceptable and by doing so, you put yourself at risk of having a crash where you or someone else could be seriously injured or killed.

“We are better equipped than ever to detect offenders and it is only a matter of time before you are caught and brought to justice.

During the operation, 13 people were dealt with for failing to wear a seatbelt and eight drivers were found to be driving while using their mobile phone. Each driver was given six points and a fine.

Seven drivers were found to be driving without a valid MOT.

Three drivers were found to be driving without valid insurance and had their cars seized under Section 165.

One driver was found to be driving without a valid driving licence and also had their car seized.

Two drivers were dealt with for exceeding the speed limit and one driver was dealt with after their car was found to be in a dangerous condition.

Two cyclists were dealt with for careless riding and one driver was dealt with for careless driving.
