THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised for a charity helping those who have served in the Armed Forces by a generous Walton resident.
For the past seven years Colin Martin has been fundraising for Help for Heroes by organising a charity golf day and hog roast.
He was inspired to raise funds for the charity after his colleague’s son, Lance Corporal Josh Boggi, lost an arm and both legs in Afghanistan after triggering an explosive device.
Tickets for the popular event sold out within an hour and saw more than 130 players competing in the tournament Colin has raised a staggering £55,597 over the years after seeing how much Help For Heroes supported soldiers with their rehabilitation.
He said: “I’m so pleased with how it went – it was beyond all my expectations.
“When we first set up the event we were hoping to make £2,000 to £3,000.
“When we raised £9,927 last year I thought that was it. I can’t believe we’ve beaten it again.”
This year’s event raised a whopping £11,244.
Colin said: “The whole community pulls together for this event and each one of them has helped change someone’s life.
“I just want to thank my volunteer committee and helpers who ensured it went smoothly, and, the people who spent generously on the night.”
