A SPECIAL school in Witham has an extra £800 to spend on therapists after holding a fundraising event.

Community choir company Funky Voices held a charity concert at the school.

More than one hundred choir singers taught students aged between 12 and 14 to sing Long Train Running using Makaton, a form of sign language.

Manager Stuart Henty said the concert was a fantastic idea and a huge success.

He said: “The children loved it and really enjoyed themselves.

“It was a joy to see them doing something creative and practical, and this is something they’ve worked so hard to do, so being able to show their learning was a fantastic opportunity for all of our students.

“Funky Voices choir have done so much for us, and we can’t thank them enough for all their hard work and dedication.”

Funky Voices manager Sandra Colston said: “We heard from members what life changing work the school do and what a difference they make, so we hope our choir was helpful in raising money for the support they provide.

“The evening was an amazing success and the students from Southview were incredible.

“They put so much into their performance and it was without a doubt the highlight of the night.”

Southview School, Conrad Road, Witham caters for children with physical and neurological impairments.

The vent was held on Saturday July 1.
