A NIGHTMARE neighbour has been kicked out of his home after five weeks of sustained anti-social behaviour.

Colchester Council was forced to apply for a closure order at 44 Longstraw Close, Stanway, after tenant David Wade kept up a campaign of playing loud music, shouting, arguing and making threats to neighbours in the property which is owned by Colne Housing.

The property is set to remain totally closed and boarded up for three months after a closure order was granted by Colchester Magistrates’ Court.

Essex Police received numerous calls and complaints about activities at the property.

Rebekah Straughan, prosecuting on behalf of the council said: “The police have reported 16 calls relating to the property in a five week period since April 12.

“There has been loud music disturbing the sleep, together with screaming, shouting and swearing.

“Arguments have broken out between visitors and the defendant.

“Needles have been found nearby and there has been a strong smell of cannabis.

“Neighbours say they have been intimidated by the defendant and his visitors and several say their work and private lives are suffering.

“Mr Wade has been abusive in response to the council and Colne Housing.”

After failing to resolve the issues with the tenant court proceedings were launched.

Wade was told what could happen but did not appear in court.

A letter written on his behalf by his mother, Susan, said he had been struggling with mental health issues which would be made worse by being made homeless.

He has lived in the property since July 2014 but the problems have only started seriously and regularly since April.

Colne Housing officer Julie Emmerson said Wade had been abusive and did not know why the problems had started recently.

She said: “He has been very abusive in meetings and we almost had to call the police to our offices at one stage.

“He has been very aggressive towards me and every other word was a swear word.

“I do not know of any change in circumstances as to why there has been a shift in his behaviour.”

The order has been activated.
